Invites you to RSVP for our next No-host Luncheon!
Friday March 29, 2019
Smoky Mountain Pizzeria Grill
415 East Parkcenter Blvd. Boise, Idaho 83706 (208) 429-0011
We’ll honor Roy Dittman
Former General Manager of KIDO & KIDQ-FM
For Sundance Broadcasting from 1979-1985
Roy Dittman was hired by Mike Jorgenson and David Reese
in mid 1979 to be the new General Manager of KIDO-AM and
also of KIDQ-FM, (“Q-104”), which Roy helped sign-on the air
on November 1st, 1979. In addition to being GM, Roy also did
Morning News on KIDO. Prior to that, Roy worked at WBNS in
Columbus, Ohio as News Director where he met Mike in 1976.
He also worked for WING, in Dayton, for 12 years, and started
his broadcast career in 1962 at KKJO-AM St. Joseph, Missouri.
After leaving KIDO in 1985’ Roy bought KBZY-AM in Salem, OR,
which he owned for 34 years. He passed away on February 26th
at age 77, due to complications from cancer and heart disease.
At the meeting on March 29th, we’ll hear excerpts of
three different air-checks that feature Roy’s deep voice!
These newscasts are from October and December 1980,
and January of 1981, when KIDO was playing “Urban
Cowboy” music, and had David Ferdinand hosting the
morning show, along with Mike Jorgenson doing sports!
These air-checks not only showcase how GOOD Roy was,
but will take you back to the early 80’s, the day after John
Lennon was killed, the Iranian hostages, Mount St. Helens
erupting, and Jimmy Carter turning the White House over
to Ronald Reagan! Member David Ferdinand will be there
to offer his insights on working with Roy and Mike, and to
tell some great Roy Dittman stories-don’t miss this lunch!
Please RSVP NOW for this lunch by Email or Phone
Is pleased to announce the purchase of the former
KFXD AM & FM Studios and Office Building
located on 12th Avenue South in Nampa, Idaho!
Thank You to all who have contributed so far!
You ROCK – and so did KFXD!
After all 2017 pledges come in, we will still be short $4,828.08.
However, we were able to obtain temporary-funding to make the down payment.
We are hopeful the remaining funds to reach $25,000.00 will arrive in early 2018.
Built in 1937 at a cost of over $100,000.00, in today’s
dollars, this building would cost almost 2-Million-dollars!
For its time, KFXD was a “state of the art” Radio Studio!
The building utilized the same type of cork for “sound proofing”
that was used by CBS in the KNX Radio studios in Los Angeles!
Here’s what the building looks like today!
Our Plans are to turn it into
The Idaho Broadcasting
History & Education Center
We are starting a Capital Campaign to raise the remaining funds
we need to pay-off the building, and we will need your help!
So as Paul Harvey used to say…
Standby for News!
Welcome to the
HISTORY OF IDAHO BROADCASTING
A tip to help you find stuff -- If you aren't sure where to look to find something on this site, you can simply search for it. For example, if you can't remember the present call letters of a station from the past, using the "Search Site" link in the upper right corner of most pages, type what you are looking for and hit <enter> and you will find a list of all the places on this site where that is mentioned. Any keyword can be used. Happy looking !
A request from the webmaster -- If you are reading this, and work for a radio station, I would like you to check the information posted for your station, particularly the "Timeline". In the information I have available, there are gaps where I may have been unable to find all the correct dates and/or changes that have occurred over the past years. If you can provide any new information, or correct any erroneous information, please contact me. If no timeline exists yet for your station, pass along what you know and we can include it on the site.
