Celebrate the Return of KBOI-TV!

The Next Meeting of the History of Idaho

Broadcasting Foundation

will be a “hosted luncheon” on Friday May 7, 2010 from Noon-1:30 P.M at the newly renamed KBOI-TV (formerly KBCI-TV) studios and offices.

They are still located in downtown Boise at 16th and Main Streets.

The purpose of the meeting is to celebrate the return of the KBOI-TV call letters to Channel 2! We’ll hear some brief comments from KBOI-TV General Manager Larry Roberts and from Citadel Market Manager Don Morin, who is also General Manager of KBOI-AM Radio. We’ve also invited all former KBOI-TV employees to join us, including Jimmy Johntz, Vera Cederstom, Ralph Frazer, Marty Holtman, Larry Chase, Paul J. Schneider, Larry Smith, Jeff Bishop, and many more!

The main program will feature a 30 minute television documentary on the History of Channel 2 called “Through the Years.” Produced by David Priest and hosted by Member Marty Holtman, this fascinating program originally aired on Thanksgiving night 1986, and celebrated KBOI-TV’s historic sign-on November 25, 1953. You’ll see some interviews made in 1986 with former Channel 2 employees including Wes Whillock, Jimmy Johntz, Bob Howell, Bill Gratton, Dick Eardley, Barrett Rainey, Larry Chase, Paul J. Schneider, Tim Bever, Mark Montgomery, Bob Ritchie (aka “Sky West”) and many more! Plus see how Channel 2’s hard-hitting investigative journalism helped free a Mountain Home Airman of murder charges, and took Channel 2 viewers inside the Idaho State Prison during a dangerous hostage take-over! Plus, you’ll see lots of other historic news footage of Boise and the nation! Thanks to Member Larry Chase for supplying the Foundation with a DVD copy of this program!

Bonus: We’ll also show you color film footage of one of the first KBCI-TV Billboards featuring Bill Gratton, Larry Chase & Paul J. Schneider, and clips from a 1978 Telethon hosted by Larry Chase!
